Data + Donuts

Transportation Planner Karina Macias highlighted LADOT's collaboration with Information
Technology Association's Data Science Federation at Data + Donuts, a collaborative effort
among the County of Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles, and the local L.A. civic technology
community. Macias discussed how data science partnerships with local universities are changing
the way the City's staff uses data to support how LADOT manages mobility investments. The
Data Science Federation is an initiative led by the City of Los Angeles with 14 local partner
universities, working with over 200 students and 100 professors and staff over the last two years.
Macias shared how the program is helping LADOT and the City reach mobility goals as well as
observe travel behavior to estimate the benefits of future projects.

Street Closures: Skechers Performance LA Marathon 2018

Please be advised that the 2018 Skechers Performance LA Marathon is taking place this
Sunday, March 18, 2018. Street closures will begin as early as 2 AM. Expect delays and
congestion in and around the event area. Click here for the Traffic Management Plan for more
details.

A Safer Cahuenga Pass

Last Thursday, LADOT joined Councilmember David Ryu in activating a new signal at Cahuenga
Boulevard West and Pilgrimage Bridge. Previously, motorists crossing the bridge and heading
towards the Hollywood Bowl were directed to turn right onto Cahuenga Blvd. West before
making a U-turn to turn south. With the installation of the traffic signal, safer movements can be
made for all entering the intersection.

Special recognition for Transportation Engineer Steve Rostam, Transportation Engineer Bhuvan
Bajaj, and Principal Transportation Engineer Brian Gallagher in working with Caltrans and seeing
this project through, and special thanks to Council District 4, The John Anson Ford Theatres,
and the Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council.

This week we revisit with Tim Fremaux, Transportation Engineer, who walks us through the new
Pedestrian Refuge Island on Zelzah Ave. and Hiawatha St. in Granada Hills. This safety
improvement was installed to create a safe waiting space in the center of the roadway, allowing
people to cross the street in each direction of traffic. Watch below to learn more!
